Questions, answered

What does S1 mean on safety footwear?

S1 is a marking under EN ISO 20345: the basic requirements, including a toecap tested to 200 joules, plus a closed heel, anti-static properties and energy absorption in the heel.

Does S1 include a midsole?

No. S1 has no penetration resistant midsole. If there could be nails or sharp objects underfoot, look for a rating that includes one, such as S1P or S3.

S1P is S1 plus a penetration resistant insert in the sole.
